Wallis Annenberg Center

Beverly Hills, California

Blending Historic Preservation and Contemporary Performance Architecture Through Structural Steel

Building the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts in the heart of Beverly Hills involved the creation of a new cultural facility that both preserves and adapts the landmark 1933 Beverly Hills Post Office. Construction included a new 500-seat, state-of-the-art theater adjacent to the original Italian Renaissance Revival post office, three classrooms, a 150-seat flexible studio space, a donor lounge, production support services spaces and administrative offices. The campus itself, a breathtaking 70,000-square-foot facility, celebrating the classic and the modern, has garnered multiple conservancy, design, architectural, and structural awards. The skills and craftsmanship of SME Steel are prominent throughout this project.
