111 Main Office Tower

Salt Lake City, Utah

Engineering a Suspended High-Rise Through Cantilevers and a Structural Hat Truss

111 Main Office Tower is a 26-story high rise and an engineering marvel. The unique structure begins with temporary steel on level one and the first main floor of the building is level three. Level two hangs from level three, unattached to the main structural columns. On level five, cantilever levels hang over an adjacent structure and rise 19 levels to the top of the building. The roof houses an incredible hat truss system which carries the weight of the entire structure and cantilevers over all four sides of the building. Cables and an intricate jacking system comprise the support for the building during construction.
