(W)rapper Tower

Los Angeles, California

Exoskeletal Steel Bands Creating a Column-Free, Seismically Resilient High-Rise

Rising 245 feet above grade, impressive steel bands create the exoskeleton for the (W)rapper Tower: an unconventional, 17-story, office tower that has zero interior columns, leaving the floors entirely open. This unique building carries a name that alludes to both cutting-edge rap music and the steel bands that wrap around the building. From first sight, steel bands appear to hang from the building, yet they comprise the entire seismic-force-resisting system, which occurs in the form of 28 60-in. x 12-in. curvilinear bands with zero straight segments. Double-height and mezzanine office levels are unique offerings of this structure, including a penthouse and spacious rooftop terrace. With spacious, light-filled interiors complemented by panoramic rooftop views of the Los Angeles skyline, (W)rapper Tower stands as the first in a new mindset of creative, high-rise buildings.
