SME Industries

University of Utah LS Skaggs Pharmacy Institute is a state-of-the-art pharmaceutical research center which conducts translational research for the development of new medications for osteoarthritis, cancer, and epilepsy. Building Systems include laboratories, vivarium, offices, common space, and additional laboratories for the College of Pharmacy and brings together six different departments of the College of Pharmacy under one roof. This facility offers research spaces designed for flexibility, efficiency, and collaboration. A four-story atrium links the building to the existing Skaggs Hall with connections between buildings at each level and provides the College of Pharmacy with a lively, interactive space where students and faculty can meet to discuss their research or simply socialize. Sustainability strategies for the building program, local climate, and massing reduced energy consumption by 23% and electrical consumption by 21%, or $7.5 Million over 50 years. Due to SMEexpertise, ingenuity, and superior craftsmanship, this project was completed on time and within budget.
