The intricate steel structure of the new SME Steel Corporate Headquarters showcases SME Steel’s status as one of the largest steel fabrication and erection firms in the western U.S. Steel columns are expressed on the outside, exposed by an 18-in shaft of glass. The interiors feature column-to-beam connections, exposed finished steel and stained concrete floors. Buckling restrained brace seismic frames were exposed to showcase SME Steel’s patented CoreBrace product—a BRBF system. The building is organized around a daylight-friendly 20-ft by 50-ft glass atrium with glass walls separating offices around the perimeter. Second floor balconies allow employees to enjoy fresh air and majestic mountain views.
