McCarran International Airport
Where Las Vegas Takes Off
Completing a Complex Terminal Structure Six Weeks Ahead of Schedule
SME Steel embraced the challenge of McCarran International Airport (now Harry Reid International Airport) when no one believed the project could be done and successfully accomplished it in less than four months. The terminal size reaches an astounding 300 feet wide by 2280 feet long and includes one basement floor, two main floors, a low roof and a high roof. 60-80 truckloads of steel were delivered each week as four cranes continuously and collaboratively organized efforts. The complicated design required thousands of individual details comprising unique shapes. Large trusses (100 ft long x 6 ft deep) were fabricated to accommodate four major and four minor sky-lights. The AESS provides the crowning touch, showcasing skill and craftsmanship. SME completed this complex project six weeks ahead of schedule.
