Boise Airport

Boise, Idaho

Signature Curvilinear Structural Steel by SME Steel

Boise Airport, the busiest airport in Idaho, serves more passengers than all other Idaho airports combined including 10 times more than the second busiest. In addition to providing commercial and general aviation services, Boise Airport functions concurrently as a USAF military facility and as the National Interagency Fire Center logistical support base. This expansion and renovation project included a new terminal, a two-level, elevated, departures roadway, expanded air carrier apron, and added parking in addition to baggage handling, baggage claim, ticket lobby, central rotunda, airline operations offices, concession spaces, airport administration and support areas, and mechanical and electrical service areas.

The three-story, new terminal is a state-of-the-art aviation facility. SME Steel fabricated and installed the curvilinear, steel trusses that create the undulating ceiling plane of the ticket lobby and define the signature profile of the structure which garnered national attention for the beauty of its design. Fluid lines throughout represent water movement that is juxtapositioned next to hard lines representing mountains. Light metal canopy is enveloped with a glass curtain. The skill and craftsmanship of SME Steel are highlighted throughout this project.
