SME Steel completed the steel package of this project with more than 30,000 field hours and a flawless safety record. Adding to the complexity, this project was erected utilizing two cranes over an operational subway tunnel, University campus facilities, and the Metropolitan Transit System. Due to SME Steel's skill and craftsmanship, this project schedule was impressively completed in roughly half the expected time frame.

California State University Long Beach Hall of Science

The Peterson Hall of Science is a specialized research and science facility comprised of six lecture halls, classrooms, research laboratories, office space, storage, animal holding space, vivarium, and a science learning center for k-12 outreach.

BYU-Idaho Center

Due to SME Steel’s experience and expert reputation, we were invited to assist the design phase to streamline the steel process which allowed us to maintain the tight temperature tolerance control necessary for the trusses to fit perfectly.

City College of San Francisco Joint-Use Facility

The City College of San Francisco Joint-Use Facility is comprised of a three-story building featuring classrooms, specialized laboratories, student development facilities, study space, and offices. The structure supports a green roof, central atrium, and skylight system for sustainability and reduced energy needs. This project was completed on budget and ahead of schedule.

California Academy of Sciences

,

California Academy of Sciences utilizes rolled beams supporting the replication of the seven hills of San Francisco which house the living roof structure. Each hill of the steel canopy accommodates one major feature within the building, is entirely framed with structural steel. The complex design and detailing highlight the skill and craftsmanship that define SME Steel.

Gordon B. Hinckley Alumni and Visitors Center

CoreBrace™ buckling restrained braces were incorporated to protect the building and its contents against high seismic activity. The clock tower majestically stands at an incredible 196ʹ and complements the structure. SME expertise allowed this project to be completed on time and under budget.

Marriott Library

The Marriott Library, located on the Wasatch fault, was renovated utilizing 128 buckling restrained braces to improve the seismic stability of the structure to withstand a 7.2 magnitude earthquake. Impressively, the library remained open and uninterrupted during the project and was completed in record time.

UCSF Mission Bay Campus QB3 Institute

,

More than one hundred cruciform CoreBrace™ Buckling Restrained Braces (BRBs) were incorporated due to the high seismic area. Additionally, SME Steel fabricated and erected a unique 40ʹ roof screen. Thanks to SME Steel's expertise, this project was completed under budget and ahead of schedule.
