The San Francisco Public Utilities Commission Headquarters is a LEED Platinumdesign comprised of a 14-story concrete structure with four stories of structural steel topping off the building. The unique highlight of this building is the 12-story structural steel wind turbine tower attached to the north side exterior of the structure helping to create the greenest urban building in the United States. The biggest challenge on this project was constructing in a densely populated area with no lay down space. Steel was delivered and erected directly from the trucks to the roof. Completion of the structural design was accomplished through an integrated project delivery method which incorporated weekly BIM coordination meetings between the structural steel and exterior curtain wall systems as well as collaboration between design team members.
