Las Vegas Healing Garden
SME Steel Contractors and Southwest Steel partnered with Whiting Turner, PENTA Building Group, and McCarthy Building Companies to help build the new Las Vegas Community Healing Garden and Remembrance Wall. Local 433 also joined in donating their services. On October 1, 2017, a senseless act of violence shattered the hearts of many in the Las Vegas community and visitors who attended the now infamous outdoor concert. This new venue comes from the simple desire to help those in pain to heal and find some measure of peace in honoring the lives that were lost. People from across the city, country, and the world came together on an empty piece of land provided by the City of Las Vegas to plant this healing garden. Instead of retreating in fear, we are stepping forward in unity planting trees, flowers, and a garden of love, hope, and compassion. This garden was completed in three days with 500 volunteers and in-kind donations. The crowning touch is the completion of the Remembrance Wall steel panels, water feature (incorporating the healing power of water), shadow boxes, heart-shaped central planter box with a living tree of life, and 6-foot blue stone angel wings installed in front of the water feature. One of the wall panels accommodates 58 crystals through which light can pass. This garden is truly a healing gift for locals and visitors to enjoy for many years to come. We are honored to be part of providing this space.
